Three months after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake tore at the heart of Haitian community and family life, Catholic Relief Services’ emergency relief operations have reached more than 720,000 people living at the epicenter of unimaginable loss. Across Port-au-Prince and outlying areas, CRS supplies of food, water, shelter and medical care have helped people survive the catastrophe’s aftermath and gain their footing for the long road ahead.
CRS’ objective is not merely to restore pre-earthquake standards, but to rebuild people’s lives and communities so Haitians have the means to achieve an even greater quality of life than they had before. Thanks to many supporters, CRS has made an excellent start.
Reconstruction and recovery will require many years. CRS is fortunate to have a history of more than 50 years in Haiti, allowing them to build upon deep relationships, contextual experience and a network of trusted partners. They say they are also fortunate—and deeply grateful—to have partners in their work to help the Haitian people in their recovery. By supporting CRS programs that empower Haitian communities to build back better, you are giving Haitian families the means to not only survive this catastrophe, but to thrive.
