As the Pennsylvania Catholic Health Association (PCHA) celebrates its 50th anniversary, the community benefit of Catholic health care – such as uncompensated care, care provided in the public interest and other outreach – is thriving in the Diocese of Allentown.
Two highlights include Sacred Heart Hospital (SHH), Allentown, partnering with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Allentown to provide pregnancy education and support to expectant parents.
Another is St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading and its parent Catholic Health Initiatives partnering with Catholic Charities on a three-year grant called “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” (NHN) to match volunteers with older adults in Berks and southern Schuylkill counties.
