As the legislature returns to Harrisburg, school choice is likely to be debated in these early weeks of the session. Insiders say that this fall is THE TIME for school choice – vouchers and an increase to the EITC scholarship program have the support of the governor and the Secretary of Education. It is up to us to let our legislators know that we, the voters, also want school choice now!
If you’ve sent a message before, please do so again! After a summer hiatus, legislators must hear from you AGAIN, so whether this is your first message or your third, please e-mail your senators and representatives today!
Since January several different pieces of legislation have been considered. The pieces of legislation that we support include BOTH a voucher program AND an increase to the EITC scholarship program. Senate Bill 1 and House Bill 1708 have been the most talked about. Whether one of these bills or a bill with another number is the vehicle for school choice, the two key components are vouchers and an increase to EITC.
As this debate heats up, you are bound to hear common arguments against school choice, most of which are exaggerated or even false. Click on the links below to learn more:
- Vouchers will benefit taxpayers.
- Catholic schools are accountable.
- School choice works in other states.
- Catholics schools will not sacrifice their mission.
- School choice is not a public vs. private school issue.
This fall could be our “last bite at the apple” for school choice legislation – please contact your legislators today and ask fellow parents, teachers, friends and family to do the same!
