UPDATE: Board of Pardons Hearing Postponed to Wednesday, November 7, 2012
The Pennsylvania Board of Pardons will hold a clemency hearing on Friday, November 2, 2012, (UPDATE: Wednesday, November 7, 2012) for another death row inmate, Hubert Lester Michael Jr., who is scheduled for execution on November 8.
Just as they did on behalf of Terrance Williams in September, the Bishops of Pennsylvania sent a letter to the Board of Pardons urging a commutation of Michael’s sentence to life in prison. Read the Bishops’ earlier letter here.
If the Board of Pardons votes unanimously to recommend a grant of clemency, the governor may commute his sentence or not. If they are not unanimous, the governor may still grant a temporary reprieve.
Concerned citizens may also contact the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons and Governor Tom Corbett in support of commuting the death sentence to life in prison or a temporary reprieve.
