PA Catholic Conference, Gov Corbett

Governor Tom Corbett

This morning, Governor Tom Corbett granted a temporary reprieve to Hubert Michael, who was scheduled to be executed on September 22.

The governor issued the reprieve due to the Department of Corrections’ apparent inability to carry out the execution due to a lack of lethal injection drugs.

The governor states that the reprieve will remain in effect until the DOC obtains the necessary execution drugs, which could happen at any time.  Find more background on the case here.

While the PA Catholic Conference believes Mr. Michael should be held accountable, the state of Pennsylvania is able to provide an alternative to taking another life: life imprisonment.
