Pennsylvania Catholic Conference:
Congratulations to Archbishop Wuerl
HARRISBURG (May 18) – The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference (PCC) extends its congratulations and best wishes to Bishop Donald W. Wuerl, Pittsburgh Diocese, who was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI this week to succeed Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick as archbishop of Washington.
“During his many years of service, Bishop Wuerl offered invaluable wisdom, insight and leadership to the objectives of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference,” said Dr. Robert J. O’Hara, Jr., PCC Executive Director. “He takes a very proactive approach with public policy questions and has found many ways to bring the Catholic Church’s teachings on theology and moral issues to the debate in the public square. We wish him the best of luck and Godspeed.”
The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference is the public affairs agency of Pennsylvania's Catholic bishops, representing the eight Latin Rite and two Byzantine Rite dioceses in Pennsylvania. There are more than 3.5 million Catholics in Pennsylvania. In many urban and suburban areas of the state, more than 30 percent of the population is Catholic. More information about the PCC is available on its website at: www.pacatholic.org.
